Can you think of one lifestyle shift that doesn’t take a whole lot of thought, planning and preparation? Drink more water!
There are many health benefits of drinking water.
It’s essential for maintaining healthy weight and energy levels, and necessary for flushing toxins from the body. Not getting enough can put us at risk for chronic dehydration, which can result in devastating health complications. Our bodies consist of 60-70% water, and because many of us don’t get enough of this vital fluid, it’s time to drink up!
I realize that the suggestion to drink more water is not new to you. So why aren’t you taking this wellness tip seriously? Is it because you can’t stand the thought of another boring gulp? I hear you — plain water can be somewhat mundane, but with a little creativity, you can turn the mundane into a satisfying experience.
Make your water taste more interesting just by adding a few healthful ingredients.
Create extraordinary, magical beverages — water that you will actually want to drink. Let’s take a look at some wonder water ideas. You’ll never view your water glass the same way again.
• Mix one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (and a pinch of stevia if you like) to a cup of water and enjoy hot or cold.
• Squeeze half of a lemon over a cup of crushed ice to help you stay cool and hydrated on warm days.
• Add lime juice to your cup of water and relish on the run.
• Place basil leaves and sliced cucumber in your large jug of water, shake and savor while working.
• Toss your favorite herbs and berries into your container of water for a refreshing infusion.
• Chop an orange and a few pieces of peel into your container of water, shake and sip during the afternoon.
• Replace the juice in your smoothie with water for a lighter blend.
• Steep herbal tea in a hot cup of water to soothe your senses after a stressful day.
Got the idea? The list of possibilities is endless. No chemicals, no additives — just clean, refreshing water with natural gifts from the garden.

How much water should you drink? I like to go with the standard recommendation of eight, 8-ounce glasses per day. However, you may need more or less depending on your weight and level of physical activity. Eating water-rich raw fruits and vegetables can contribute to your daily water intake as well.
And another thing: I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the S word: s-u-g-a-r. I’m sure you are aware that sugar is addictive, and excess sugar can compromise your immune system. According to the American Heart Association, excess sugar is linked to obesity and a higher risk of chronic diseases. If you’re looking for a way to reduce your sugar intake, simply change what you drink. Substitute wonder water for soda and other sugary, chemical-laden beverages.
Pour on a fresh, new way of drinking. You’ll feel like you’re doing your body good while planning your next strategic pivot.
