Slip And Stumble, But Keep Moving Forward

Do you need some encouragement today?
If you’ve been diligently working on accomplishing goals that you’ve set for yourself but have not yet seen tangible results, don’t give up! Keep your head high and stay positive.

We all can benefit from a lift when the going gets tough. My inspiration for you today is a quote by political consultant and author James Carville.

“The only person that ever stumbles is a guy moving forward. You don’t stumble backwards; you stumble forward, and you never stumble when you’re stationary. So don’t worry about stumbling. Keep pushing it forward.” -- James Carville

When I first read this mantra, I equated it to hiking in the mountains. Some sections of a trail can be more challenging than others. Occasionally, I’d trip on the rocky terrain, lose footing and have to pause and collect my breath. But because I’m in pursuit of a spiritual, multisensory adventure with the natural world, I keep going. When traversing an unpaved path — the road less traveled — you must take calculated steps that lead to your mark.

I also recall life-changing experiences that led me to where I am today with my transformational wellness and empowerment business, Lifestyle 120. There were hurdles to navigate, and each blunder required me to seek guidance from within before proceeding. As the saying goes, it’s not about the destination but the journey. You learn so much about yourself when maneuvering challenges.

Have you encountered road bumps and wondered if you’ll ever succeed? I bet you have plenty of stories to tell about how you overcame difficulties and forged ahead. What do you have your heart set on this year? A professional goal? A personal endeavor? A lifestyle intention?

You’ll never know what you’re made of, if you quit your dream.
It’s okay to pause, reflect and amend your strategy, but don’t be discouraged. By design, goals were meant to require something from you — effort, grit, focus, determination, and patience.

Perhaps you may want to create your own affirmations that will help you move forward with confidence. Set your sights ahead. Embrace the learning curve. Acknowledge the life lessons. And when you get where you’re going, you can look back with pride and share your accomplishments with others.

Consider This
I am reminded of the lines from one of my favorite children’s books, The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper: “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…I thought I could.”

Four Steps to Nourish, Transform and Flourish
• Set a loving intention to keep moving forward when you experience bumps in the road.
• Begin by internalizing the quote by James Carville that’s introduced in this post or create your own mantra.
• How will not giving up keep you on track for accomplishing your dreams?
• Close your eyes and visualize how this lifestyle change can prepare you for your amazing second half.
