Do you want to make a difference in the world but are concerned about what others may think or say?
Are you immobilized because you think you may be criticized for following your chosen path? One way to sabotage your own happiness is to worry about the opinions of cynics. Restore your vanishing joy by following your heart.
Here’s something important to remember: Critics sometimes judge others based on their own experiences, fears, and ignorance — they make assumptions without recognizing authenticity and truth. So when someone tries to discourage you from pursuing something that’s vital to your existence, refuse to accept his or her assessment. I know it’s easier said than done, but if you are aware of where they may be coming from, you can move forward with confidence.
Here’s what happens when you accept someone’s smothering viewpoint:
You lose your confidence, you begin to doubt your judgment, you feel defeated and think you’re not good enough. All devastating emotions! A naysayer may say you’re too old for what you want to accomplish. Or that you don’t have what it takes to start something grand on your own. Or they may try to convince you that your vision is too difficult and therefore not worth your time.
Naysayers don’t have access to the dreams that God has placed in your heart. So why are these folks in your business? When it comes to your life purpose, don’t allow anyone to dissuade you from going after it. Place your hands over your ears and refuse to allow others to define you.
It all boils down to personal power.
Are you giving your power away to those who don’t know you? Are you allowing others to steal your joy? What are you expecting to accomplish in this lifetime? You can easily be talked out of your destiny if you don’t expect to succeed.
“If you listen to critics for too long, you will become deaf to success.” — Matshona Dhliwayo
But what happens if you are your own worst skeptic? It may be hard to admit but YOU might be afraid of success. Do you spend more time telling yourself why things will never work than making your dream come true? Are you using a person’s negative opinion as an excuse to avoid commitment to your personal goals? Don’t be your own killjoy. It can be scary to take the leap of faith. That’s okay. Be scared! But dare to do it anyway. Trust yourself. Punch through the resistance. Once you establish a can-do attitude, you will regain your power.
You know yourself better than anyone. Rather than spending precious time worrying about being judged, become keenly aware of self-judgment. You don’t need permission or approval. The only approval worth seeking is the advice offered by your wise and peaceful inner knower. Surround yourself with supportive people and boldly live out your dreams your way!
Consider This
Author and photographer, JaTawny Muckelvene Chatmon says, “Sing so loud that the music drowns out the sounds of the naysayers. One day they’ll be singing your song.” Worrying about what others may think of you is a common emotion. Many people allow critics to interfere with their mission in life. When you have faith in yourself and trust the process of personal revelation, you will experience amazing results.
