How long have you been sitting and tending to task?
If you’ve been glued to your chair for the last few hours and are beginning to feel fatigued, you need a break! But taking a break does not mean getting distracted by starting something new or returning calls — it means movement. Want to know how to produce more energy so you can finish whatever you started?
Here’s a fun solution…Get Unleashed!
It’s time to quit your chair, turn on some hip dippin’ music and “Wooly Bully” for three to five minutes. I know that once you get going, you may not be able to stop dancing. But right now, you only get to lose yourself in one song! After your dance break, guzzle a glass of water. I bet you’ll feel reenergized, refreshed and refocused. Now return to your to-do list and complete your tasks!
We all know that committing to a daily exercise routine is essential to wellness. You’ve heard me speak about the importance of choosing fitness activities that are enjoyable, motivating and easy to maintain. Many people think that if they exercise first thing in the morning, they’re good for the rest of the day. Not quite.
Hooray for fitting in fitness on a regular basis! However, if you have a sedentary job or find yourself sitting for long stretches throughout the day, you’ll still need to periodically move your body in order to remain energized and mentally alert.
Dancing boasts many health benefits
When is it okay to let your hair down, raise your voice, crank up the volume and “Boogaloo Down Broadway?” Now! Allow your favorite boogie boppin’ ditties to help you split up long sit-sessions. Dancing counts as exercise and boasts many health benefits similar to that of other cardio activities. Studies have proved that dancing is a full-body workout. Employ smooth moves and jammin’ music to help reduce your fatigue, improve your circulation, boost your cognitive performance, elevate your mood, and keep you on task.
Dancing makes me feel fab and puts a smile on my face! Beyond the physical benefits, dancing is entertaining and emotionally uplifting. Music, dance and laughter all wrapped up in one big booty-shaking benefit! As Jackie Wilson shouts out in “Baby Workout,” “Put your hands on your hips and let your backbone slip and workout!” You know, there’s something soulful about music and dancing. When paired together, they can break mental blocks and open you up to more. Try to fit in a few unscheduled dance moves during the day so you’ll have the energy to develop your projects and keep your promise of transforming your life.
Consider This
In the evening when your work is done, invite your sweetie to two-step with you for longer dance sessions. Enroll in a weekly dance class. Or go-go solo. Remember the throwback song from the 60s, “Going to a Go-Go” by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles? Go ahead — download a groovy playlist for your daily breaks! And if you’re working with others on a social project, can you visualize everyone taking a five-minute dance break — music blasting? You’ll be revived and motivated to work for another hour or so, before calling it a day. You could even post your dance sessions on social media!
