Do you sometimes feel lonely and wish there was a way to meet like-minded people? Staying connected is vital to our overall health and well-being.
We are social beings, and building friendships is one of the most rewarding experiences. I believe our main purpose in life is to love. But as we get older, it’s not always easy or comfortable to actively seek new and meaningful relationships. So what can you do?
Try to find connection within a spiritual community. This can be a non-threatening place to mingle and share fellowship with compatible people. Perhaps you already belong to a spiritual community but haven’t participated in many of its events since the pandemic. Now is the time to expand your experiences and join in on some safe, in-person events and virtual activities.
If you’re not a member of a spiritual family, consider visiting a new center or faith group every week for the next few months to determine which one feels right for you. You don’t have to commit to membership while exploring your options online. Get involved in some way. Attend sacred services and sign up for educational offerings. Enjoy virtual tea with the members; share and ask questions about the community.
Check in with yourself often. Each time you engage in an activity, ask yourself if the experience was positive and uplifting. You want to build on the positive. Rededicating a part of your life to spiritual development can be a transforming experience.
We need each other as we pivot during these challenging times. We never get where we’re going without the support of others. Meet, greet and enjoy connecting with like-minded people within the safe and comfortable surroundings of a spiritual community.
Consider This
If your motivation to join a spiritual community is to address the issue of isolation, you may receive more than you expect — you might also experience personal growth and transformation. Further, you have placed yourself in a position to bless another person. Someone else may be looking for your friendship to address her feelings of loneliness. By nurturing loving relationships, you are making the world a better place.
