Can you use some encouragement today? Do you need a gentle thump to bump you out of your slump?
I was thumbing through a few articles in one of my motivational magazines the other day and saw this thought-provoking quote by Reba McEntire that resonated with me and may be just the inspiration you need right now to get back on track. She said, “To thrive in life, you need three things: A wishbone. A backbone. And a funny bone.” What a hopeful, rousing reminder as we strive towards our dreams!
Here’s how the three bones provide a structure of support—
The wishbone represents the dream — what you’ve been holding in your heart. Have you established realistic goals? What is your vision for the rest of your life? Does it include adventure and excitement? What are you wishing and hoping for? You’re not done yet! I pray that your wishbone promises something extraordinary and satisfying.
Fierce fortitude is required to support your wishbone, so the backbone is a compelling concept to explore. To me, it symbolizes commitment, strength and determination. Your backbone is what holds you upright. Fierce fortitude is required to support your wishbone. You need movement to manage your mission in life. Take small, actionable steps toward your dream. Have you been consistent in your efforts? Do you feel that you’re making progress? Are you willing to take risks? My image of a person with a backbone is someone who is intrinsically motivated to pursue her passion — relentlessly purposeful and intentional. Your backbone is the grit needed for the grind.
The third bone fuses the wishbone and the backbone in a tender, loving way. Sometimes we can be so driven that we forget to enjoy the journey. Let’s decide today that we’re going to have fun along the way. You know the saying, “Stop and smell the roses?” That summarizes the essence of the funny bone — a crucial element to our progress. It helps to ground us— it’s that feel-good substance that keeps us light and joyful. Did you know that humor is good for your well-being? Laugh at yourself when you make mistakes. When things don’t turn out exactly as you planned, maintain a sense of humor, and keep your eyes fixed on the higher plan. We talked about the amazing benefits of laughter in the last post. Get your laugh on here.
Hopefully, you’ve been refreshed and are now inspired to continue skipping along your path. Bear your bones, gallant gal. Follow your dreams, be courageous and maintain a playful attitude.
Consider This
While on your journey, don’t forget to turn onto the scenic overlooks. Get out and dance, sing, whoop and holler. Give your inner girl a whirl. Establish a reputation as the fun one. Remember, humor is that magic substance that elevates our mood and enlivens our steps.
