Does this sound familiar? You’ve been sitting for the last few hours working on something important, and are beginning to feel fatigued. You need a break! However, if you get up and begin doing something different, like replying to e-mails or running errands, you’ll lose your train of thought. How can you produce more energy and finish what you started? Here’s a fun solution…
Get up from your chair, turn on some jammin’ music and do your groove thang for three to five minutes. I know that once you get going, you may not be able to stop dancing. But right now, you only get to lose yourself in one song! After your dance break, guzzle a glass of water. I bet you’ll feel reenergized, refreshed and refocused. Now return to work and complete your task!
We all know that committing to a daily exercise routine is essential to wellness. You’ve heard me speak about the importance of choosing fitness activities that are enjoyable, motivating and easy to maintain. You’ve also heard me say that brisk walking can promote strength, endurance and cardiovascular health. Many people think that if they exercise first thing in the morning, they’re good for the rest of the day. Not quite.
Hooray for fitting in fitness on a regular basis! However, if you have a sedentary job or find yourself sitting for long stretches throughout the day, you’ll still need to periodically move your body in order to remain energized and mentally alert.
Allow disco divas to help you split up long sit-sessions. Dancing counts as exercise and boasts many health benefits similar to that of other cardio activities. Studies have proved that dancing is a full-body workout. Employ smooth moves and music to help reduce your fatigue, improve your circulation, boost your cognitive performance, elevate your mood, and keep you on task.
Dancing makes me feel good and puts a smile on my face! Beyond the physical benefits, dancing is entertaining and emotionally uplifting. Music, dance and laughter all wrapped up in one big booty-shaking benefit! As James Brown shouts out in his popular song, “Ow! I feel good…da da da da da da da!” Try to fit in a few unscheduled dance moves during the day so you’ll have the energy to develop your projects.
Consider This
In the evening when your work is done, invite your partner to two-step with you for longer dance sessions. Enroll in a weekly dance class. Or mash some spuds solo. Remember the throwback song from the 60’s, “Mashed Potato Time” by Dee Dee Sharp? Go ahead; download a groovy playlist for your daily breaks!
Can you visualize your team taking a five-minute break every day at 3:25—music blasting? By 3:30 everyone is revived and motivated to work for another 90 minutes before calling it a day. Post your uncensored videos on social media!
