Get Your Laugh On: Weave Humor Into Your Daily Life

When was the last time you had a really good belly laugh?  Well, I’d like to begin with something funny to help you get your laugh on today…

I read a fun fitness story the other day posted on atimetolaugh.org that goes like this:

“I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.”  Haha!

Sometimes we get so busy with our daily routines that we forget to whoop.  Just like anything else worthwhile in life, you have to seek humor. So loosen up and schedule it in your date book now!  You’ve probably heard that laughter is the best medicine.  Here are some scientific reasons why laughter is good for you—

Laughter—
--  Supports cardiovascular health
--  Boosts your mood
--  Reduces stress and anxiety
--  Supports your immune system
--  Facilitates breathing
--  Relieves minor aches and pains
--  Activates your core by engaging your abdominal muscles
--  And much more…

A daily chuckle not only supplies heaping platters of health benefits, it can also ease the tension in uncomfortable social situations.  Know what I mean?  A quick quip can sometimes diffuse awkward moments.

You really don’t need a reason to laugh.  I encourage you to laugh just because.  Begin laughing at the silly, absent-minded things you do.  Here’s what happened to me one day last week:  I misplaced my master keys and searched high and low until I finally gave up.  The next day, as I was getting ready to go out for groceries, I grabbed my spare set, and when I went to start the car, there were my masters in the ignition.  Haha!

Are you a little rusty on your chuckling?  Perhaps you’ve forgotten how to laugh and need a starter kit, so I have a few resources to place in your punch bag. Haha!  Get it?  “Punch” as in punch line.

Okay, so that one flew over.

What you need—
--  A great book of riddles. To get started, type in “books of riddles” or “crazy riddles” in your search bar.
--  A collection of jokes, puns, and funny short stories.  Check online sites for jokes and funny stories.  There are tons!
--  A supply of comedy movie titles.  The public library has a large selection.  And your favorite online movie services may have just what you’re looking for.  I happen to like Eddie Murphy’s laugh and Jim Carrey’s character.  And have you ever seen The Jerk starring Steve Martin?  Insanely over the top!

Set up your week with giggle-worthy material and be rewarded with better health.

Laugh with life and live longer.  A sense of humor is the best prescription-free medicine with immediate positive results. Once you begin to seek humor, it may become one of your most enjoyable pastimes.  Join other cultivated shriekers!  Get your deep, belly laugh on anytime, anywhere!

Let’s conclude with this humorous line —
“Which famous rock group has four guys who don’t sing or play musical instruments??  Are you ready?  Mount Rushmore!  Haha!

Consider This
Humor is good for you and others.  The next time you dial a friend to offer support or encouragement, be ready with one of your favorite riddles.  You may just lift your friend’s spirit and lighten her load.
